Absolutely | Tom AllenWell known, well-spoken and very well dressed – Tom Allen adds an additional layer of dandy endearment to his fabulously funny show by greeting his audience one by one as they arrive. While this pre-show charm is quite possibly a ruse to extract some additional content from his punters, it’s also a rather lovely and sincere introduction to his very conversational style of stand-up.

From learning to drive, to children in supermarkets and agonising hen nights as a token homo, Tom Allen shares his observations with a hearty dose of good-natured self-deprecation accompanied by hilarious back referencing to the tribulations of coming out as not only as gay but also as posh in a family of the polar opposite.

Tom is a master story teller and an incredibly quick opportunist with anything on offer from a very up for it audience.

Headlining here in Australia after previous tours supporting other big-name UK comedians, Tom Allen fosters an amazing and skilful rapport with Melbournians by continually checking if his British references are working for us. For those lucky enough to enjoy a mid-show chat, Tom’s appeal and gratitude extend well beyond his pre-show greeting so do be sure to check his Twitter feed ( @tomallencomedy ) for a seriously lovely touch.

A delightful hour of original, warm and generous comedy so make sure he’s on your list of festival must sees.

The script is based on a true story, although this dramatisation can feel somewhat contrived, with important assertions not interrogated, and credibility stretched as a result.
  • Heathers The Musical
    Heathers The Musical
Capturing the essence of its predecessor, Heathers The Musical is an absurdly comic production that doesn’t just walk the line of polite society but plans to blow it all up with reckless abandon.
  • The Glass Menagerie | Melbourne Theatre Company
This Glass Menagerie is top shelf, and while blessed with an extraordinary cast and the highest of production values, it will not meet with everyone’s measure of how this play should be staged.

    Swan | Elf Lyons
Quirks of the source – and of the environment that sustains it – are cleanly exposed in a high-energy hour of physical comedy, delivered with moments of avian grace.
  • Waitress the Musical

There is a lot to love about this show; the cast are strong, and the onstage band who interact in the main diner setting is a fun touch.
